Stretching along the shores of the St. Johns River, downtown Jacksonville is truly the centerpiece of the city. Residents and tourists enjoy walking along the 5.6 miles of riverfront, attending its many outdoor events and visiting downtown's cultural and sports facilities. These include the Prime F. Osborn III Convention Center, EverBank Field (home of the Jacksonville Jaguars), Veterans Memorial Arena, Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville, Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts, the Florida Theatre and numerous museums. The heart of Jacksonville is also home to many diverse industries with more than 1,000 businesses, three Fortune 500 company headquarters, and more than 48,000 employees. Thanks to a recent residential revival effort with new, upscale condos and townhomes, downtown also claims more than 3,800 residents. Jacksonvillians utilize a number of methods for getting around downtown including city buses, taxis and the city's Skyway rail system.
